Public Street Maintenance 2022

The City of Mission Viejo recently confirmed that our public streets (Appian Way, Olympus Drive, Daphne East, and Daphne West) are scheduled for asphalt top-coating in October-November 2022. Work is scheduled to commence the second week in October and continue through the second week of November.

The City will be mailing a general notice to residents with public street addresses only. A second notice will go out during the first week of October. A street-by-street schedule will be provided as soon as it’s available. Residents are urged to pay close attention to these notices. To prevent towing, all vehicles must be removed from these streets for 24 hours on the dates(s) work is scheduled. An internal notification action will be taken specifically for residents parking on Olympus who may not receive City notices.

Council Elections move to District Representation

City of Mission Viejo Districting Plan A map

City Ordinance 22-343 signed by Mayor Wendy Buckman on 8 March 2022 amended the City Municipal Code for the election of council members from at-large to district representation. The City Council adopted the new ordinance in compliance with the State of California Government Code Section 34871, in furtherance of the California Voting Rights Act of 2001. Five new districts below were established by the Ordinance. Candidates for City Council must be qualified by law, must reside in the geographical area making up the district from which he or she is nominated, and must be a registered voter of the City of Mission Viejo. District voting will commence with the general municipal elections in November 2022. Existing council members will serve out their terms as district representation is adopted.

Restatement of our Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&Rs) and By-Laws

Nearly fifty years old, your Board has approved the updating of our CC&R and By-Laws. The update will reflect current State laws, redefine provisions unique to our Association, and incorporate provisions recommended by our Law Firm, Epsten, APC of San Diego, CA.

Update 7 January 2022:

The two-year terms for two of our five Board seats expired on 31 December. Three HOA members are running for these seats to include incumbents Jim Gotses and Curt Rastetter and new candidate Evan Goss. Our third-party election management company, Accurate Voting, has reported that ballots will not be mailed to the members until early to mid-January 2022, slipping our election one month due to administrative workload. We regret the delay. Incumbent Board members will continue to serve until the election results are reported.
