The recent devastating house fire on Athena in September 2025 claimed the life of one resident and the likely total loss of the structure. Because our Association carries liability insurance on our properties, we are in the process of filing a large claim for the purpose of rebuilding. A settlement of this scale will ultimately result in a future increase to our already large ($112,600) annual insurance premium, an expense share by all members. This event focuses attention on both the fire risks and preventative measures throughout our community. Each owner and resident is urged to assess the risks they may be ignoring such as:
- Overloaded electrical circuits
- Flammable materials stored near an ignition source
- Clogged clothes dryer vents
- Hoarding and stored trash
- Insufficient smoke detector units in the home and garage
- Inoperative fire extinguishers
- Safety service on furnaces
- Serviceable batteries in smoke detectors
